Peterborough Cathedral Website Live

St James Systems have just launched the new Peterborough Cathedral website. The site, which is the largest Cathedral website in the UK, has been a labour of love and a test of project management skills. 12 months went into planning and developing a site that aimed to showcase all that the Cathedral has to offer in a way that was not bamboozling to visitors.

The aim of the site is to attract visitors and to provide useful information to tourists and regulars alike.

The new website is built using a content management system that allows Cathedral staff to create and manage their own content, news articles, images, news and press releases.

We feel that the site showcases our web design skills and shows our ability to manage large and complex projects.

The site can be viewed here: www.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk

The Heckington Show - Contract Won

St James Systems are proud to announce that they have won the contract for the redevelopment of the Heckington Show website.

The Heckington Show is the largest village show in England and attracts 30,000 visitors per annum: It has been running since the 1860s and boasts many truly startling stories. For example, the world's first bike race was held at the show and it is now the home of the world's oldest cycle race.

The show is a quintessentially English affair, a weekend in the sun enjoying truly English pursuits and having a great time with a uniquely friendly and helpful community and St James Systems are proud to be involved.

The mockup of the new site can be seen in the portfolio album on our Facebook page:

Female Voiceover - the site & the sounds

We have recently uploaded a new site for Louise Wilson Voice Imaging, a company specialising in providing voiceovers for corporate videos, e-learing courses, websites and on-hold marketing. You may well have heard Louise's voice but you're going to hear a lot more of it as time goes by.

The website aims to be simple and clean and to show Louise's breadth of experience. A full FAQ aims to answer many of the queries and problems that Louise has encountered in her work and aims to provide an informative resource to potential clients.

Testimonials are vital for any business and in LW Voice Imaging's case, they don't come much better as she has worked for a number of high profile clients.

Finally, there is an audio showreel, which showcases Louise's talents and works as a 'greatest hits' for her voiceovers and which gives her customers an ideal chance to 'try before the buy'.

We hope you enjoy it and welcome your comments.

Mantra for all website owners

I read an interesting passage in one of Dan Thies's books the other day which said:

Search engines don’t care about you, they don’t care about your website, but they do care about their customers. If I get what I’m looking for when I use a search engine, I’ll use it again. Search engines are trying to deliver the most relevant resultspossible for every search.

It sounds harsh but it's excellent advice for anyone trying to create a website that needs to be plugged in to search engines. When thinking about your company's website, be sure to build it with your customers and with the search engines in mind. It is all very well wanting a snazzy or 'flashy' site as it makes you look good but if there is no content, users will not stay around ling & the search engines will not look favourably on your hard work.

This is where some of the sites I have been asked to look at recently have come unstuck. If you look at the Ice Cricket website or the party supplies website, you will notice that they are all light on text-based content. As a result, they will fall behind sites that provide up-to-date detailed text-based content in the long-run.

If you're thinking of designing a website for any reason, please let me know & I'll try to help you where I can.
